Interactions with pharmaceuticals: May possibly increase the toxicity of docetaxel (Taxotere) and doxorubicin (Adriamycin); currently unclear whether toxicity is increased to normal tissues as well.(3) May have additive effect on the estrogen-receptor antagonist activity of tamoxifen but highly unlikely at physiologically achievable concentrations.(12) Interactions with other herbs: None known. Herbalists often give black cohosh in combination with other herbs thought to have an effect on the female hormonal system, such as Dong quai (Angelica sinensis), wild yam (Dioscorea villosa), and Chasteberry (Vitex agnus-castus). |
